Staffing Levels and Training
New Vision will have at least one staff on duty at all times. The ratio of staff to residents shall be adequate to meet the needs of the residents as defined in their assessments and individual service care plans.
All staff of New Vision is trained through New Vision and outside continuing education agencies, as well as on-the-job training. In-services include:
- CPR and First Aid
- Fire Safety
- Medication Monitoring
- Standard Precautions
- Dietary/Sanitation
- Observing & Charting
- Vital Signs & Assessment
- Resident Rights
- Sexuality Issues
- Recognizing & Responding to Challenging Behavior
- Personal Care Training
- Fraud Prevention, Adult Abuse and Neglect (On-line with DHS)
The staff is trained as Personal Care Workers. All training must be completed within the first three months of employment. Refresher courses are required for CPR, First Aid, Medication Monitoring, Vital Signs & Assessment, and Recognizing & Responding to Challenging Behaviors. In addition, extra in-services are offered throughout the year.
Safety Issues
New Vision will train residents to develop a working knowledge and understanding of areas where precautions may be necessary, such as emergency plans in case of fire or severe weather, community safety as well as abuse issues, and fall risk for the frail elderly.
